How does it work?
The club provides the shuttles and the courts, and it is up to the members to make up games of doubles to 21 points. Sounds simple doesn’t it?
Do you cater for beginners?
Yes we do, up to competitive level players
Do you provide coaching?
Yes we do offer coaching sessions. Check our events calendar for dates and details. Otherwise the WBA would be the best bet!
Are non VUW students welcome to join?
Yes they are, however there is a slightly extra cost compared to a VUW-student
Does the club provide rackets?
No we do not, although the Recreation Centre does hire them out for $1 each
What is the Special Class Membership (SCM)?
The SCM is designed to offer members an affiliation to the WBA at a cheaper price in order to play any NZ tournaments. For more information, click here
Does the club participate in any events or tournaments?
The club enters a couple of teams every year to participate in the NZ University Games during the Easter break. We also put in a few teams into the WBA Interclub and Business House Tournaments, which run throughout the year. There is also the Porcelain Cup Challenge against the Wellington Badminton Club, which wraps up the season. Please check our events calendar page for further information. What is the WBA?
WBA stands for Wellington Badminton Association. They facilitate and promote Inter-Association, Interclub and other leagues and tournaments at the Hataitai Badminton Hall, 1 Ruahine Street, Hataitai. Check their website for more information
How do Uni Games / Interclub / Business House Competition work?

How do I sign up for WBA tournaments?
You can either visit them at 1 Ruahine Street, Hataitai (consider opening hours) or you post the application form to PO Box 3759, Wellington 6140. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.
How can I participate in the decision-making of the Club?
We always welcome people to help out in organizing or planning club events. You can attend our meetings and raise your opinion / concern. If you think you can devote more time to Badminton Club, you can also run for an Executive Committee member position during the AGM at the end of the year.
Where is the VUW Recreation Centre?
We are located just behind the main library (Rankin Brown building). Please check the campus map
What is the best way of getting there?
If you are driving, go up Kelburn Parade and take a left turn to Culliford Drive and around the back of the University, there will be ample parking next to the Recreation Centre.
If you are catching the bus, the Mairangi 22 or 23 bus is the best route
Can we sponsor the Club?
